Get those calendars open or diaries open, because it’s time at last – here are the fixtures for the 2017-18 season!
An exciting season awaits, as we follow the progress of our new management team, Paul Phillips and Steve Halford. Having been appointed in May, Paul and Steve have spent their time recruiting players for the opening game on Saturday 12 August, at 3pm.
We can now reveal that their first game in charge will be an away trip to the reprieved Goole AFC. Although finishing in the bottom two last season, a number of clubs were unable to compete at Step 4 this season and Goole’s points per game ratio was enough to see them claim back their space, helped in now small part by the 3 points they took in the corresponding fixture. Revenge will be in mind!
The following Tuesday sees Clitheroe visit Surrey Street for the first home game of the season, whilst August ends with the big bank holiday game at home to Hyde United!
September brings four away trips, including a meeting with old friends at Ramsbottom United on the 12th, and a renewing of old acquaintances when we travel to Atherton Collieries on the 30th.
November sees a game much anticipated by supporters up and down the division. On Saturday 25th we travel to South Shields for the first meeting between the clubs, but against a management team we know very well from North Shields. Get those hotels booked GNErs!
We are likely to come across more old friends in December when we travel to Colwyn Bay on 9th December, whilst Boxing Day sees us back at Surrey Street, taking on Mossley FC.
On New Year’s Day it is the return game at Hyde, January also features trips to Radcliffe (6th) and Prescot (20th), whilst February’s highlight should be the visit of Droylsden on 10th.
On March 3rd we will be one of the later teams to get a look at Scarborough Athletics new stadium and will host Colwyn Bay and South Shields as the season builds up to its climax. Then, in April, we visit Mossley on Easter Monday (2nd), Brighouse (7th) and Kendal (21st) whilst Ossett Albion come to Surrey Street on the 14th. The season ends on 28th when we play host to Ramsbottom United.
Well, maybe the season ends then! If play-offs are needed, they’ll be on the following midweek, with the final on Saturday the 5th.
