Glossop North End are delighted to hear that Sam Hare has been awarded the NWCFL Premier Divisions Player of the Month award for December.
Sam came to Surrey Street in the summer and was playing well in pre-season friendlies until he broke a toe in a match away at New Mills. As a result, he did not make his competitive debut for the Hillmen until the middle of September.
Since returning to the team Sam has slowly regained full match fitness and is now showing his true value to the side. December was a great month for Sam and a very successful month for Glossop North End, with four wins and a draw in five games during the month, and Sam’s contribution to this success was crucial.
Sam is one of the breed of all action midfield players who cover every blade of grass during a match. Whilst primarily a creative player, Sam is equally proficient at tracking back to help out the defensive midfielders at any sign of trouble. He is also aware of his position on the field to such an extent that he is always available to receive the ball from colleagues and initiate attacks through his own excellent vision and passing ability.
In addition to his general play, Sam also scores goals. He has recently taken over as the penalty taker for Glossop North End and converted two penalties during December matches which were significant to the results.
A calmly taken penalty away at Maine Road, in a Man of the Match performance, was the Hillmen’s only goal of the match in a 1-1 away draw against a side higher up the League. Similarly, a last minute penalty in the home match against Bootle secured an important win for the side against a highly rated team.
The last match of the month showed found Sam taking a right footed in-swinging corner which found the net directly to secure a 3-1 win away at Abbey Hey.
Overall, Sam has scored 11 goals from 20 League and Cup starts this season which is an excellent return from any midfield player.
Sam has become a very popular player with the Surrey Street supporters, and everyone is looking forward to his performances in the blue of GNE for the remainder of the season.
Sam will be presented with his award prior to the home game with AFC Blackpool on Saturday 18th january.
