After lengthy negotiations this week with High Peak Borough Council, we are proud to announce that in recognition of Glossop North End reaching the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final that the infamous Glossop tower that overlooks the ground will be painted blue and white.
The tower is a locally renown landmark across the High Peak area and has often been a hot topic of conversation amongst local residents. High Peak Council were unavailable for comment*, but allegedly were delighted upon hearing the news about Glossop North End reaching the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final against Ilkeston FC and could think of no better way in which to celebrate this achievement.
The former Ferro Alloys tower, which was once the feature of a BBC documentary, were also unavailable for comment**, but thought it would be a fitting way of honouring the hard work that Glossop North End under the management of Chris Willcock which has led to the reaching the cup final after their semi final 6-0 heroics against Borrowash Victoria in February.
The Derbyshire Cup Final will be played on Tuesday 29th April 2014 at Alfreton Town FC, kick off is at 19:45. For fans wishing to make the journey, a coach will be put on and details of this can be found on the Glossop North End Supporters Forum.
The contract to adorn the famous blue and white of Glossop North End to the super structure has been given to a chap called Dennis Crown who said assures us he’ll have a team of men available to compete the work before the final when he gets his third set of ladders back from John to get towards complete the top section. Several local artists and engineers declined to the offer to produce an image of what the tower might look like following its renovation but our highly trained senior groundsman has produced this image.
The soon-to-become art installation will remain overlooking Glossop and the surrounding area for the next 10 years or until other sponsorship from local businesses becomes available. Enquiries regarding this should be made to both Glossop North End and High Peak Borough Council in writing accompanied by a locally sourced pork pie.
