10-man Glossop North End crashed out of the NWCFL Cup at their first hurdle for the third consecutive year as league leaders Maine Road came to Surrey Street and won for the second time this season.

Glossop North End responded to a lacklustre first half with a second 45 three goal salvo that lifted them into the top half of the table in a night of spectacular goals in Chorlton.
Despite starting brightly, with Tom Bailey looking lively and forcing the keeper to save with his legs and then lifting a shot from a tight angle just over the bar, things started to go wrong for the Hillmen when conceding in the 22nd minute.

The Hillmen stormed into the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday sweeping aside their West Yorkshire opponents in a dominant display in which although Sam Hare scored a hat trick, you wouldn’t want to single out a player for special praise. It was a ruthless team performance. At times the two division gap in the league pyramid between the two teams was made to look like a gulf.

North End bounced back from surprise defeat at the weekend with a comprehensive win against a poor Winsford United side. The breakthrough took a while, but once the Hillmen had grabbed the lead the result was never in doubt.

The Hillmen progressed into the 1st Round Proper of the FA Vase at Surrey Street on Saturday with a last gasp winner against their fellow NWCFL team Formby, debutant Kyle Riley netting the vital goal just as second half injury time began.
