The Hillmen stormed into the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday sweeping aside their West Yorkshire opponents in a dominant display in which although Sam Hare scored a hat trick, you wouldn’t want to single out a player for special praise.  It was a ruthless team performance.  At times the two division gap in the league pyramid between the two teams was made to look like a gulf.

In many ways, Glossop were on a hiding to nothing, expected to win comfortably.  They just needed an early goal to settle themselves down, and after a spell of pressure that’s exactly what they got in the 12th minute.  It was a simple goal, as Paul Cliff delivered a corner to the 6 yard line and Nick Allen nodded home to open his tally for the season.

The game was pretty much all North End from there.  Alex Byrne’s near post flick forced a save and Tom Bailey shot over the bar before the lead was finally double on the half hour.   This time Hare’s cross from the right found Bailey unmarked at the far post, and he made no mistake with his header.

Ten minutes later it was three when Hare was brought down moving onto a 1-2 at the edge of the area that left him clear on goal.  Hare himself got up to send the keeper the wrong way.

Into injury time, Kinsley did muster a couple of shots on goal, but Appleton’s shot, that looked as though it was on target, was blocked by Kelvin Lugsden’s body and Day sliced his shot wide when presented with an opportunity to have a go from the edge of the area.

In the previous round Kinsley had recovered from 3-0 down to progress, so it’s almost certain North End will have spoken about this at half time and they came out looking for further goals.  Cliff forced a terrific save from the keeper with a diving header, although Williams had to be alive to save from Wood, as the Kinsley sub tried to pull one back.

It took until the 62nd minute for GNE to effectively seal the game when Bailey and Harry Bockerie linked up on the right side allowing the full back acres of space to cross.  He cut the ball back, picking out Hare who netted despite not catching the ball cleanly.

It was five two minutes later, with Bailey netting a lovely goal after receiving the ball at the edge of the area and beating the defender with a body feint.  It left him a clear run to the penalty spot from where he picked his spot.

Kinsley never gave up, but North End were relentless, bringing on substitutes keen to impress to nail down a spot in the starting line up.  Kye Riley’s first touch let him down when Bailey picked him out and the keeper was off his line to block, and Nathan Neequaye could only hit the side netting off the rebound from a tight angle.

Riley did net though in the 86th minute when the tireless Bailey again got behind the left back and picked him out on the penalty spot.  Riley made no mistake from 12 yards.  Then in the 3rd minute of injury time Hare netted again from the spot after Russell had been felled.  It was Glossop’s first seven goal salvo for two years, meaning they were emphatically into Monday’s draw for the second round.

GNE: Williams, Bockarie, Russell, Lugsden, Adams, Allen (Riley), Byrne (Marshall), Kilheeney, Bailey, Hare, Cliff (Neequaye).
