Glossop North End comfortably sealed progress into the next round of the Manchester Premier Cup at Surrey Street on Tuesday, easing to victory in a thoroughly professional performance.  In doing so, they will have handily dealt with any hangover from FA Cup defeat with Saturday’s home tie against Formby imminent.

Although ultimately a mad two minute spell at the start of the second half cost North End this tie – they allowed Linnets to score their two goals in that short time – in truth The Hillmen didn’t deserve to take anything from this game as they failed to show the form of recent weeks.  As such, an opportunity to progress in the FA Cup against a side at their own level was wasted.

That Friday Feeling

FA Challenge Cup

The weekend is nearly upon us and this Saturday can only mean one thing, it's an FA Cup weekend.   On Saturday, the First team make the journey to Runcorn Linnets in the First Round Qualifying match.   Kick off is at 3pm.

Our last appearance in the Second Qualifying Round was in 2006-07, when we lost to Trafford, who were at the time a fellow NWCFL club.  Glossop North End football secretary Stewart Taylor says everyone at the club is looking forward to the game.

The pervading sentiment around Surrey Street at 5.30 pm on Saturday was one of relief as the home side progressed in the FA Vase but only after making life very difficult for themselves.

The FA Vase is special to all followers of Glossop North End and the journey started this season with a home match against Nostell Miners Welfare of the Northern Counties East League. Nostell have had the most difficult start to their season imaginable having suffered what might be called a triple loss – all of their league matches, their manager and their captain but, as Alexander Pope said in his Essay on Man, “hope springs eternal”.
