Glossop North End 0 Congleton Town 0
North West Counties Premier Division
Match Report: Jonathan Haggart
Defences held sway at Surrey Street on Tuesday night as the Hillmen and the Bears fought out a game that will live short in the memory.
The two teams simply cancelled each other out for the most part. North End did show the most attacking intent but rarely troubled the Congleton keeper, whilst the visitors looked most dangerous when breaking from Glossop set pieces at pace, although a rearguard that has conceded only 2 goals in 8 games was able to deal with their advances.
Glossop came closest when Aaron Moxam flicked on a long kick from the back. It looked innocuous enough, but the keeper’s poor positioning saw the ball go past him and dribble towards the goal, only for him to scramble back and claw it off the line.
That aside, home efforts were largely from outside the area as the stout Congleton back line guarded their penalty box fervently. It needed a spectacular goal to open the game up, but sadly for the unseasonably cold spectators, this never came. No fault of the players, who gave 100% to a man – sometimes the back lines just dominate completely.
