Match Details

The Hillmen’s interest in the 2015-16 FA Cup came to an end on Tuesday with a 2-1 extra time defeat against Skelmersdale United – but they can consider themselves hard done by.

Glossop dominated possession, particularly in the second half where they pinned the home side from a division higher around their own box. The only thing that was lacking was the killer pass that would truly open the stout back four up.

Skem had taken the lead in the first half when Glossop North End conceded a goal that was out of character. From a corner Gerry Kinsella found himself completely unmarked on the penalty spot, headed the ball down and watched as the bounce took it into the top corner out of everyone’s reach.

Glossop North End had already spurned opportunities by this point, but continued to press. However, they pulled level only in the last ten minutes when Ben Brooks was brought down by the keeper and Dave Young stepped up to net the penalty.

However in the first period of extra time a low free kick could only be pushed away by Greg Hall and Skem sub George Donnelly was quickest to react to net the goal that would give his team a trip to Bamber Bridge in the next round.
