Trophy Exit For Hillmen
Glossop North End made the long journey home empty handed on Tuesday as their FA Vase adventure ended at the Evo-Stik leagues furthest outpost.
The sides had gone in level at half time, Shane Henry scoring at the quarter-game mark for the home side only for Martyn Andrews to level on 33 minutes with a curling shot when a corner had dropped to his feet in the box.
Early in the second half Henry hit the bar for Spennymoor but Glossop settled and began to dominate possession without creating too many chances.
However, two goals in three minutes cost them dear. Firstly Henry’s 70th minute snapshot from the edge of the area fizzed past Greg Hall into the net, and shortly afterwards Chris Mason tucked away a free header from a corner when making a run across the near post.
But for Hall matters could have got worse, pulling off a couple of outstanding saves before Nick Alexander gave Glossop North End hope, tapping in a Ben Brooks cross with 5 minutes to go.
Glossop couldn’t find the leveller to send the game into extra time though, Spennymoor holding firm. It is they that will play Goole on October 31st.
