After handing out his unique type of award from the cockpit of his “banter bus” last May, Glossop North End midfielder Ben Richardson was determined to impress his side’s fans this season, with an eye on winning the big one in 2015-16 – The Supporters’ Club Player of the Year award.
However, after spending much of the season on the treatment table and just returned to full fitness, Ben accepts that his chances are currently limited. He is still determined to win it though, which is why he has this week changed his name by deed poll.
From today onwards, Ben Richardson is no more. Say hello to Dave Young.
Dave explains, “I love it at Surrey Street, and I wanted to have a season of assists and goals this year so that I might win Player of the Year. That wasn’t to be, so instead I’ve found another way to take the prize. The other Dave Young has won it every year since he was born, or at least that’s how it feels, so this way he at least has to share it with me!”
- Dave Young
It’s not yet known how this name change will affect tomorrow’s team sheet, should both Dave Young’s be selected, but we’re certain the league will be informed in order to avoid a fine, or worse points deduction. Meanwhile, the chant tomorrow could be ‘There’s only two Dave Young’s…’!
