Glossop North End have secured their play off place in this years Evo-Stik First Division North league after a 1-1 draw with Trafford FC tonight.
Before a ball was kicked tonight, Glossop North End could have secured a play off position in their inaugural season in Evo-Stik league by beating Trafford or if Clitheroe failed to beat Brighouse Town.
0-0 at half time, the Hillmen took the lead after a Jamie Rainford shot rattled the woodwork with substitute Danny White on hand to slot home the follow up. The lead however was short lived as Trafford equalised shortly afterwards directly from a corner. A nervy last 10 minutes passed without incident and Glossop North End secured their place in the play offs after Clitheroe went down 3-4 against Brighouse Town. Champions elect Warrington Town didn’t play tonight.
Alongside Glossop North End, Northwich Victoria also secured their play off spot for this season. The last play off place is not yet finalised, but it looks to be heading the way of Burscough who realistically only need a single point thanks to their superior goal difference to that of Clitheroe.
Following last season’s promotion from the North West Counties League, no-one can doubt the magnitude of this achievement. This isn’t however end of the season, instead the stakes at the table have just got that little bit higher.
With three games left for the Hillmen to play you would be wrong to think that Chris Willcock and his team will be taking it easy after reaching the play offs. Spennymoor Town are virtually assured to finish 2nd, leaving the remaining three places up for grabs, especially when Glossop North End and Northwich Victoria have yet to play each other twice which would have a massive bearing on the final placing in the league.
The play off games will take place in the midweek after final games – either on 26th or 27th April 2016, but this will only be confirmed after the last regular league match on Saturday 23rd April.
