An early Aaron Moxam goal ensured Glossop’s winning start to the season continued, making it 6 wins from 6, although his fifth minute effort did not produce the landslide victory the opening burst suggested.
West Didsbury & Chorlton 0, Glossop North End 1
North West Counties Premier Division
Match Report: Jonathan Haggart
North End had already had a few shots on goal prior to Moxam’s goal – Kieran Lugsden forcing a terrific save out of the West Didsbury keeper from a header that was tipped onto the bar. However, they did break through when Steve Yarwood cut in from the left and shot from outside of the area. Whilst Yarwood’s shot was blocked, Moxam reacted quickest to finish off the inside of the post from 10 yards.
Although Glossop rarely looked troubled at the back, after the goal they struggled to play with the coherence that they had the previous Saturday whilst the home side passed the ball around neatly, albeit with little penetration.
That said, West Didsbury forced a flying save from Greg Hall on the stroke of half time and in the second half did have the ball in the net from a corner, only to find the referee had blown his whistle for a foul.
North End’s best chance in the second period also came from a set piece, Sam Hind‘s volley being cleared off the line and Dave Young‘s follow up just going the wrong side of the post.
This was a victory for the North End defence though, who added another clean sheet to an already impressive collection.
